The weekend of Equipe Verschuur started well at Misano, with a pole position by Ricardo van der Ende for the first race of the weekend and a good fourth starting position by Finlay Hutchison for the second race of the weekend. Like other racing weekends this season, it showed the pace of the McLaren 570S and the potential of Equipe Verschuur. During free practice it was very wet, but the sun was shining in each way by this results and it looked to be a weekend that everything would be in place.
During the first race of the weekend, a hard fight was fought by some competitors. While leading the race from pole position during the beginning of the first race, the battles were hard but good at the front too. After losing the lead for some laps, the lead was taken back by Equipe Verschuur and their drivers during the end of the race. The McLaren of the Dutch team crossed the line fairly in first position and it looked to be a good victory. Because of some chaos on track, which apparently also influenced the Dutch team and their result during a safety car period, a penalty was received because of overtaking during this safety car period. The fourthy seconds penalty dropped the team back to the middle of the field, eighteenth to be precise, and a worthy victory was lost this way.
After the penalty during the first race, which made a deserved and earned victory disappear, Equipe Verschuur drivers Finlay Hutchison and Ricardo van der Ende secured their first GT4 European Series win of the season at the Misano World Circuit during the second race of the weekend. Starting from fourth on the grid, Hutchison moved into the lead early in the race by some fascinating moves that showed that the young talented driver was in a hurry. Before handing the McLaren 570S GT4 to Van der Ende, Hutchison managed to keep a consistent gap to his competitors. The Dutchman then drove it to the finish, to claim Equipe Verschuur’s and McLaren’s first win in the series.
Ricardo van der Ende, #10 Equipe Verschuur McLaren 570S GT4: “Finlay did the hard work really. For him to start on P4, just really taking it easy, going forward and then, very adult, he took the lead. We kept on going, he really saved the tyres for me and I really had a brilliant car to drive to the finish. Thanks to Finlay and the team!”
Finlay Hutchison, #10 Equipe Verschuur McLaren 570S GT4:“Hopefully that’s the tables turned and now it goes our way for the rest of the season. I had tons of pace in the car at the start and I managed to save the tyres. I don’t think it was all down to me. Now I look forward to Spa, where I have a double program. It’s going to be interesting.”
Noteworthy are also the results of Liesette Braams in her McLaren 570S GT4 of Las Moras Racing by Equipe Verschuur. The Dutch lady literally fought her way to the front during both races; driving the races solo instead of pairing with her teammate Sven van Laere. Braams got some decent results in Misano, which made her and the team smile and showed her fighting spirit.
